Who they are: The Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida strives to be recognized
throughout the local community and surrounding areas as "The House that Love Built" by providing superior
facilities and services to families of seriously ill children. Ronald McDonald House of Gainesville is a nonprofit
organization. Ronald McDonald House of Gainesville has 30 rooms and often has a waiting list for families with
critically ill children that are receiving care at local area medical facilities. The House's occupancy averages
over 90% and the need remains constant.
What they do: The Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida provides temporary
housing, basic amenities and support to families with critically ill children being treated at area medical
facilities.
What YOU can do to
help: Volunteers are needed in the following
areas:
House Volunteer:
answer phones, interact with the public and the families at the House, facilitate arrival and departure of guests
(in addition to application and interview, requires 8-16 hours of training and a commitment to volunteer at least 8
hours each month)
Visiting Chef:
purchase and prepare a dinner for 40-50 people at the House (limit of 10 volunteers serving
dinner)

Maintenance Volunteer: help with general household repairs, landscaping, cleaning and organizing kitchens, supervising
children's play time in the playroom
Family Room Volunteer: work as a host in the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Shands UF Hospital, provide books and
games for children, put drinks and snacks out, answer phones, monitor activities of the room (in addition to
application and interview, requires Shands UF volunteer orientation, immunization records, TB test, on the job
training shifts, and a commitment to volunteer at least 8 hours each month)
