Who they are: Lubee Bat Conservancy is an international nonprofit organization that strives to save fruit
bats and the bats’ habitats through conservation, education and research.
What they do: Lubee Bat Conservancy runs a conservation and research breeding center 10 miles north of
Gainesville. The Bat Center has conservation and research scientists, supporting personnel and animal keepers.
What YOU can do to help: There are different volunteer opportunities based on whether or not a volunteer
has been vaccinated for rabies. If a volunteer has been vaccinated for rabies, they can go into the bat enclosures
and take care of the bats. Other volunteer opportunities for those without the rabies vaccine include:
Assisting the curator with the preparation of educational items.
Preparing diets and enrichment.
Working in our browse garden.
Assisting maintenance department with facilities maintenance.
Assisting the keeping staff during the bat feedings.
