What they do: The Downtown Festival & Art Show is held each fall along the
streets leading from the Hippodrome State Theatre to City Hall. This year it will be Saturday November 12
and Sunday November 13, 2011. The festival is open to the public and free to attend. Each year more than 100,000
people attend the festival. In addition to the multitude of paintings (watercolors, acrylics, oils), ceramics,
sculpture, photography, and jewelry, there is live, continuous entertainment by dance companies, solo musicians,
and local bands. There are activities for children at the “Imagination Station,” delicious food and
refreshments, and a Community Information Area that showcases nonprofit organizations in the area.
What YOU can do to
help: Volunteers are needed (individuals,
organizations, or businesses) in the following areas:
Information Booth (selling
T-shirts and posters, helping visitors and artists, checking in artists and volunteers, assisting volunteers
and artists with information and directions)
Booth sitting (greeting and
relieving artists for breaks)
Children’s Imagination Station
(painting, mask design, sidewalk chalk drawing, puppets, button making, sculpting)
Artist Check-in
Judge’s Helper
To volunteer, fill out the volunteer
application and sign up for a shift (most are 4 or 5-hour shifts except Judge’s Helper) and indicate whether you
would like to volunteer on Saturday or Sunday. Once you complete the application, mail, fax, or e-mail
to:
