Who they are: CDS Family & Behavioral Health Services, Inc. is a private non-profit social services agency serving North Central Florida for more than 35 years. They are committed to strengthening the community by building strong families through the prevention of substance abuse.

What they do: The three major program areas are youth shelters for youth in crisis; community education that focuses on prevention of substance abuse; and counseling people with substance abuse issues and troubled youth.

What YOU can do to help: Volunteers are needed for the following programs:

Alpha & Beta Programs: Volunteers are needed on school days 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for any period of time.  Volunteers help with academics.  Alpha Program is held at Williston Elementary.  Beta Program is held at Williston Middle.  Both programs are geared toward helping students who exhibit signs of future problems

Reichert House: Volunteers are needed 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Reichert House to supervise after-school activities.  Volunteers assist students with homework, mentor students, and act as positive role models for youth who are from high risk communities.

Public Relations / Office Help / Events: Volunteers are needed for marketing, office tasks, resource development, coordination of Project Safe Place, speaking engagements at area schools, and recruitment for Safe Placel

Outpatient Services: Volunteers are needed for office work in the office for the outpatient department.  The outpatient department gives treatment for people addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Interface Youth Program: Volunteers are needed to interact with and help the troubled youth who come to this temporary shelter.  Hours are flexible since it is open 24/7.  Interface is a crisis stabilization center for youth who have run away from home.

The requirements to become a volunteer are that you have to be a high school graduate, pass a local law enforcement screening, and pass a Deapartment of Juvenile Justice Background Screening.  There are training requirements to become a volunteer, but they depend on the specific program you are volunteering with.
