What they
do: Volunteers in Alachua County Public Schools
assist staff and teachers, help students improve in academics, provide opportunities for curriculum
enrichment, and assist in identifying additional resources to match identified needs.
What YOU can do to
help: There are many ways you can volunteer in Alachua
County Public Schools.
Community Resource Volunteers are volunteers willing to speak in various classes as requested about a
particular hobby, talent, job, travel, etc. If you volunteer for this
position, your name will get put on a list for teachers to use.
Teachers will then contact you if they would like you to come speak to their class.
Rockin’ Reader Volunteers are volunteers who come into a school once a week to read books aloud to 2-3
children between 4-6 years old who test below the rest of their peer group in pre-reading skills and language
development.
Classroom Assistants are volunteers who get to work very closely with staff and teachers at the
schools. They assist with projects and activities, help keep records,
help prepare instructional materials, interact with students, read books, listen to children read (in elementary
schools), operate AV equipment (in middle and high schools), assist with testing, review homework, and perform
clerical duties.
College Volunteers are students at UF or SHCC who wish to volunteer in area
schools. Sign-ups for placement in schools are held during the
first two weeks of the school year.
If you wish to
volunteer, you will need to read the volunteer handbook. You will
also need to fill out the application to volunteer and then submit the form to the school you wish to volunteer
at or the district office.
